A custom oil portrait from a photo, painted stroke by stroke to a song
Send us a photo. We paint the portrait in oil — a thin sketch first, then broad strokes, then the eyes and the last light in them — and film every stroke. The result is an artmoovik: a short film of the portrait being born, to a song made for that person, with their name and your letter. $25, ready in 1–2 days.
Who it is for
A portrait of your wife or husband for an anniversary. A parent, from the photo you love most. A child, for grandparents far away. A friend who just got married. A dog or a cat — they are the most-ordered portraits of all. And a portrait of someone who is no longer here, made from the one good photo that is left.
How the portrait is painted
This is not a filter. The portrait is built the way a painter works: a thin sketch to place the face, large brushes for the background and the light, smaller ones only where the detail lives — the eyes, the mouth, the edge of the hair — then glazes for the skin and the last highlights. Every stroke is recorded, so the film shows the face appearing from nothing. You can see how it is done on the painting page.
Oil is the default; ask for pencil, ink or charcoal in the order notes if you prefer.
Which photo to send
One where the face is clear and the light is soft — a window, an overcast day, no hard flash. Phone photos are fine. If there are two people, both faces should be visible. We do not need the original file; a screenshot will do.
What they will see
Their name opens the page. A blank canvas, the sketch, the strokes, the eyes — while the song plays. Under the finished portrait, your letter and a certificate number. It opens on any phone or computer and never expires.
What to write in the letter
Say where the photo was taken and why you chose it: “This is you at the lake, the summer before everything changed. I wanted to keep that look. Happy anniversary.”
What it costs
Two ways to order, two prices:
- $25 — made from your photo or your story. Attach a photo, write the name and your letter. We paint it in oil, stroke by stroke, and send you a private link within 1–2 days.
- $35 — a ready-made artmoovik from the gallery. A finished painting with its own song, personalised with their name and your letter. Yours right after payment.
Why is the custom one cheaper? Because you give us the photo and the story — the painting is yours from the first stroke. The gallery pieces are finished works we sell as numbered editions of one for each name.
How to order
- Choose “Made for you” (attach a photo) or an artmoovik from the gallery.
- Write their name and your letter. You see the gift page exactly as they will.
- Pay, and get a private link. Send it whenever you like: the page opens with their name, the painting with its song, your letter and the certificate number.
Questions
How much does a portrait from a photo cost? $25, including the song, the gift page and the certificate. A ready-made artmoovik from the gallery (not a portrait) is $35.
How long does it take? Usually 1–2 days from the moment you attach the photo and pay. We email you the private link.
Is it a physical painting? No. It is a film of the portrait being painted, delivered as a private link. You can save the final frame as an image and print it.
Can you paint a pet? Yes — dogs and cats are the most common orders. A clear photo of the face is all we need.
What if I do not like the result? If we do not make the work, you get the payment back in full. If the first version is not right, we redo it once.
Is it private? Yes. The portrait is made once, for one person, and never published without your permission.
